How I Wore It // Black Lace Free People Gown

by Maria Versluis

Let me introduce myself, my name is Niyah. I am a second year fashion design student at the University of Cincinnati. I am currently on co-op and I chose to work here, at the Pink Tulip Club. While I am interning with this boutique I'll be the writer behind the blog you're reading. You can also see me in one of our stores working retail 3-4 days a week OR at one of our fashion shows or photo shoots working behind-the-scenes.

A couple of weeks ago we had our first prom photo shoot, and one of the dresses on the rack was this black lace, free people number. I fell in love with it when I first laid eyes on it. It's dark, romantic, and a little bit dramaticโ€“ I was all about it. And, I had the perfect venue in mind to wear it to: a formal ball at my school.

I chose to straighten my naturally curly hair for the occasion, and paired the dress with a teardrop earring, dark lip, and nude eye. I stand at 5 feet 11 inches, so I'm not a huge fan of wearing heels. I decided to stick to what I know best and wear black, pointed-toe flats. The finishing touches were my favorite faux fur lined coat, and a python purse made by luxury handbag designer Kathryn Allen Couture.

I got so many compliments at the event, and I felt confident knowing I had the best dress in the room.

You can find this dress in store now! It's perfect for prom season, a formal event, or to wear just because! Hurry and get it before it's too late.
